Dolores “Deenie” Tarver, Ph.D.

Dr. Tarver received a B.S. in Psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She completed her internship at the University of Memphis Center for Counseling and Testing. Following her internship, she served as lecturer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the Counseling Psychology Program and then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Georgia in Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS). After completing her post-doc, Dr. Tarver accepted a position as a staff psychologist at CAPS. She relocated to Columbus in 2012 and took a position at West Central GA Regional Hospital as the Psychologist (Director) of the Positive Behavior Support Team. She began working as an independent contractor for Columbus Psychological Associates in 2013. Dr. Tarver provides individual counseling to adults, conducts adult psychological assessments, and engages in community outreach. Specialties include racial and ethnic diversity, LGBTQ+, anxiety, depression, ADHD, adjustment/transitions, grief, career, suicide awareness and prevention, and trauma. Assessment areas include pre-employment, return to work, ADHD, academic accommodations, disability, pre-adoption for foster or adoptive parents, and pre-surgery (i.e. spinal stimulators, bariatric surgery, and hormone therapy). Dr. Tarver believes in the importance of balance (mind, body, and spirit) to create wellness. She utilizes CBT, supportive therapy, and adaptive skills training to facilitate adults working toward meaningful goals and decrease barriers to optimal well-being.
